  • First fruits of my labor (or as we normally refer to them - tomatoes)!

Happy Tuesday all!!! I hope you are enjoying your summer as much and I am. My little garden has birthed its first tomatoes and I couldn't be more proud. Our friend Jeremiah (who is a master chef - seriously) was over Sunday night for cheese and wine, so we picked the ripe tomatoes and ate them with a dash of salt! So wonderful! Look for an entry from Jeremiah soon, with a some yummy recipes. He is the only reason I think I have any knowledge of cooking. Under the tutelage of Jeremiah and my friend Joceline I have learned...

  • Your skin wants clean water too!

As it's a very rare rainy day in Los Angeles, I thought I would talk a little bit about water.  You may or may not know much about water filtration systems ( and there is a lot of info out there) but it's important to think about if you are drinking your tap water or bathing in it without a water filter. I won't get into the water debate in this post, but there can be many chemical contaminates in our tap water. We aren't even aware of them, all the while, we drink the water and shower in it....

  • Urban Garden update & the 4th of July!

Well, I am so excited to announce I have my first RED tomato! Just in time for all the 4th of July celebrations (and boy was my neighborhood hopping with fireworks last night)!   First, the garden and then fireworks! This guy just turned red on the 4th of July. Want to give him a few days to vine ripen and then it's down in my belly with a little olive oil and salt! My husband and I had this wonderful basil mixed in with burrata (fresh Italian cheese, made from mozzarella and cream). We put it on fresh garlic bread and it was amazing. Last...

  • 'In Defense of Food' and why it will help your skin

What's the largest organ?  Your Skin How often does is regenerate? Every 27 days Why is this important? Because it's not just what we put ON our body that matters, but it's also what we put IN our body that matters. I know this is probably not new news to you, but it's a critical part of creating beautiful skin. Your body needs good material to work with in order to create new, healthy skin.  "In Defense of Food" is a great book by Michael Pollan who also authored "The Omnivore's Dilemma." His whole philosophy about food and nutrition can...

  • Kentucky Bluegrass, good friends and organic farms

Hey all! As you know, your skin is as much about what you eat as it is about what you put on it. I don't think I can stress enough the importance of whole food eating. I am refraining from calling it "nutrition" because we have become focused on the nutritional value in something and lost sight of the beautiful food all around us.  While visiting friends in Lexington, KY over the past few weeks, I continued my journey to find fresh, local food. I did a little research on EAT WILD to find a local farm and I discovered PIKE...

  • Stay cool for summer with an icy cold beverage

I generally like small, local stores but I saw this at Starbucks when I went in for my caffeine fix (Awake Tea was the caffeine vehicle of choice). I love this. It's a double wall stainless steel cool beverage cup, with a stainless steel straw. I am known to be a bit clumsy -- the dents in my Kleen Kanteen are the proof that I could never use a glass water bottle. Since I am on a quest to eliminate as  much plastic in my life as possible, this is great. It wasn't that expensive either-- $19.95 and this should...
